The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology & Microbiology (OMFP)was established at SRI BALAJI DENTAL COLLEGE in 2014 with the goal and dedication towards training the undergraduate BDS students for efficient understanding of the concepts of fundamental processes involved in the diagnosis and study related to the causes and effects of diseases affecting the Oral and Maxillofacial region. So to speak, one must possess a complete knowledge and awareness of what “normal” means in order to identify and delineate what an “abnormality” is. Hence is the purpose of the study and subject of Dental Anatomy and Oral Histology (DAOH), administered and managed by our Department, in the curriculum of I year wherein the basic foundation of knowledge is laid and inculcated in the young potential minds of our new incoming students into the comprehensive five years course and curriculum of BDS.

The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology & Microbiology specializes in training our undergraduate students of III Year BDS with the aim of equipping them with potential and capability of identifying and defining various pathologies encountered in the Head and Neck Orofacial regions. Dividing the academic year into elaborate schedules of Didactics and Practical lab program the syllabus and curriculum of DAOH and OMFP subjects are well organized by the department, thereby prepping our I year and III Year BDS students to not only be exam-challenge ready, but to apply this Paraclinical knowledge and significance of the subjects gained, in their forthcoming years of Clinical relevance and training. As the greatest Pathologist/Physician, Sir William Osler once said, “As is our Pathology, so is our Medicine. What the Pathologist thinks today, the Physician does tomorrow.”
